Story Links

ST. LOUIS – In a game of runs it was the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team that had the last one outscoring Drury 7-0 over the final two minutes to rally for a 66-60 win on Thursday evening at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons finish the regular season with a record of 17-10, 15-5 GLVC and will be the number two seed in next week's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament while the Panthers drop to 13-13, 8-11 GLVC.

UMSL got off to a slow start then Matt Enright got hot scoring 11 of team's next 13 points to give the Tritons their largest lead of the half at 19-12 just past the midway point of the opening frame.

Drury tightened up defensively holding UMSL to four points over the next 8:30 minutes as it used a 20-4 run to take its largest lead of the night at 32-23 on a jumper from Brock Wakefield. The Tritons got a layup from Emanuel Prospere II to end the scoreless spell but a layup by Wakefield on the other end sent the teams to the locker room with the Panthers in front 34-25.

The Tritons began the second half with a 12-4 run to cut Drury's lead to one after a layup from Troy Glover II at the 14:31 mark. The Panthers pushed the lead back to five but UMSL chipped away and retook the lead on two free throws from Prospere with 9:18 remaining.

Drury countered on the other end as Riek Riek scored on a putback off a missed three from Zach Howell.

The Tritons scored seven of the next nine points to grab a 55-51 lead after a dunk from Glover with 6:33 to go.

The Panthers wouldn't go away answering UMSL's run with a 9-4 run of their own to retake the lead 60-59 on a layup by Colin Hardrick with 3:01 left.

Neither side scored for the next minute until Savon Wykle hit one of two free throws to tie the score at 60.  UMSL got a stop and with the shot clock winding down Enright buried a three from the top of the key to put the Triton back in front with 1:08 to play.

Drury had a chance to cut it to one but Riek missed a shot and Janeir Harris got the rebound. Harris missed a three on the other end but Prospere got the rebound and was fouled with 16.6 seconds left. He hit 1-of-2 to make it a two-possession game.

Logan Applegate missed a contested three from the right wing, Prospere got the rebound and fired it ahead to Harris who was fouled with 1.3 seconds left. Harris hit both free throws to seal the victory.

The Tritons shot 56 percent from the floor in the second half to finish the game at 48 percent (25-for-52) including 8-of-23 from three but shot 62 percent (8-for-13) at the foul line. Enright led all scorers with 20 points and was joined in double figures by Prospere with 18 while Glover added another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers shot 40 percent (25-for-63) from the field but only 31 percent in the second half. They were 4-of-22 from three but perfect at the foul line (6-for-6). Hardrick led the way for Drury with 15 points while Applegate added 13 and Wakefield finished with 12.

UMSL returns to the court next Thursday at 2:15 p.m. for the first round of the GLVC Tournament at Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo. Their opponent will be announced after the conclusion of Saturday's games.
