HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader to Alabama-Huntsville 6-5 and 10-4 on Friday afternoon at Charger Park. The weekend schedule was adjusted due to weather on Sunday. The two sides will play another doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 – UAH 6 UMSL 5
The Tritons (3-2) jumped out to an early lead with a run in the second on
Jake Isaacs single to second scoring
Mitch Bonczkowski. The Chargers (3-3) countered with a run in their half of the second on an RBI single to left off the bat of JC Wilburn scoring Ian Reagan.
UMSL regained the lead in the third on an RBI single to center off the bat of
Andrew Buescher bringing home
Braedon Stoakes. UAH answered with two in its half of the third and two more in the fourth to seize a 5-2 lead heading into the final three innings.
The Tritons chipped away scoring twice in the fifth on an RBI double from
Barrett Rose and a ground out to short from Bonczkowski to pull within 5-4. UMSL tied the game in the seventh. With runners at the corners, Buescher hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Stoakes with the tying run.
The Chargers walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with a hit from Reagan to lead off the inning and then a throwing error by
Trey Schneider allowed the winning run to score.
UMSL outhit UAH 10-8 in the contest and was led by Stoakes and Isaacs with three apiece while Rose added two more. Schneider took the loss giving up the unearned run on one hit and a walk in an 1.0-plus pitched.
Game 2 – UAH 10 UMSL 4
The Chargers batted around in the home half of the first sending 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on nine hits.
RJ Elmore and
Nate Kemp each gave up four runs in the frame. UAH tacked on another run in the second as Wilburn drove in Jackson Lindsey with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Tritons scored three unearned runs in the third to cut into the lead as
LJ Randle,
Luke Saxton and Stoakes all scored in the inning. UMSL added another run in the on an RBI double from Rose that brought home Stoakes. UMSL had a chance to get even closer loading the bases with two out but a force out at third ended the threat.
The Chargers final run came in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to left.
UMSL was held to five hits in the nightcap and were led by Rose with two. Elmore took the loss giving up four runs on three hits and a walk and didn't retire a batter in his outing.
The Tritons and UAH wrap up their four-game weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
