INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's swimming team recorded its highest ever finish at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships with a 20th place finish and 52 points on Saturday evening at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Sophomore freestyler
Justice Beard claimed her third All-America at the meet and fifth of her career with her second-place finish in the 1650 freestyle. She set a new school record with a time of 16:24.86 in the event breaking her own mark of 16:34.77 which she set last year at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship meet. She was edged out by Simon Fraser's Tori Meklensek who won the event with a time of 16:20.35.
Beard's finish in the 1650 is the highest ever by a Triton women's swimmer.
Ella Lantz swam in the morning prelims of the 200 backstroke and finished 28th overall with a time of 2:02.87.
UMSL's 400-yard free relay squad of E. Lantz, Beard,
Audrey Lantz and
Kate Nelson finished 18th overall in the event with a time of 3:24.91.
The Tritons finished the meet with four All-America honors with Beard finishing fourth in the 1,000 free, fifth in the 500 free and second in the 1650. The 200-yard free relay team also earned honorable mention All-America accolades.
