ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team split its doubleheader against Lincoln on Saturday at the LU Softball Field in Jefferson City, Mo. The Tritons won the opener 3-2 while the Blue Tigers won the second game 4-1. UMSL is 8-11, 1-5 GLVC while Lincoln is 10-14, 1-5 GLVC.
Game 1 - UMSL 3 Lincoln 2
The Blue Tigers struck first in the opener getting a groundout to second that brought home the first run of the game.
The Tritons tied the game in third as
May Pasqualini reached on an error allowing
Julia Sandles to score the tying run.
Lincoln retook the lead in the fourth on a double scoring Abbi Conrad.
UMSL tied the game in the fifth as Pasqualini doubled home Sanders and then took the lead in the seventh on
Gwyn Miller's solo home run to lead off the inning.
Ashley Borowitz worked around a two-out error in the bottom of the seventh to improve to 5-4 on the year.
The Tritons had seven hits in the contest and were led by Miller and Pasqualini with two apiece. Borowitz threw a complete game allowing the two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
Game 2 – Lincoln 4 UMSL 1
In the second game the Blue Tigers scored twice in the second to take the early lead. UMSL got a run back in the third as Pasqualini scored on a ground ball double play to cut the lead in half.
Lincoln got that run back in the third as Ann-Marie Simpson stole home. The Blue Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh as Emily Thompson doubled home Torri Hinnah.
The Tritons were held to four hits in the second game with Pasqualini, Sandles
, Jamie Widule and
Phoebe Miller recording one each.
Ashley Ware took the loss giving up four runs on nine hits in five innings pitched to fall to 2-5 on the season.
UMSL continues its road trip with a doubleheader at Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. at the S&T Softball Field.
