ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's tennis teams split their matches against Purdue Northwest on Sunday at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The men fell to the Pride 4-0 while the women beat PNW 4-1.
In the women's match, the Pride (2-7) won two of the three doubles contests to win the opening point of the match. UMSL's (4-1) number one doubles team of
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez beat Haizea Lopez and Salma Raslan 6-2 for the lone doubles victory.
The Tritons rallied in the singles portion of the match winning the first four singles contests to win the clinch the victory. Tse beat Tamiya Lintz in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 at number one singles, Lopez handed H. Lopez a 6-0, 6-3 defeat in the second singles contest.
Anna Favaron won in straight sets over Romance Debrielle 7-6 (8-6) and 6-2 and
Morgan Lint picked up a 6-4, 6-2 for the clinch.
In the men's match, the Pride (8-3) won two of the three doubles contests to earn the first point of the match. UMSL's (3-3) number three doubles tandem of
Alejandro Ley and
Joan Garros won at number three doubles 6-1.
The Tritons dropped the first three singles contests as Ley fell to Alex Lozano 6-3, 6-0,
Tanin Ramnath won the first set of his match against Samuel Dickson but Dickson won the next two sets in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-2) and 1-0 (10-8).
Percy Siercke took the first set in his match with Daniel Melero 6-1 but Melero rallied to win the next 7-6 (7-2) and 1-0 (10-7) to clinch the victory for PNW.
UMSL is back at home on Wednesday (March 12) hosting Northwood at 1:30 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
