ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team had its two-match winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to No. 14 Harding on Friday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Bison improve to 8-4 while the Tritons drop to 5-4.
Harding won all three doubles contests to secure the opening point of the contest. The number 14 doubles tandem of Adrian Solorzano and Cas de Ruiter defeated
Daniel Berdecio and
Tanin Ramnath 6-4, the No.34 doubles team of Florian Gayme and Cian Mikkelesen beat
Percy Siercke and
Henry Roberts 6-1 and the Bison number three team of Edoardo D'Arrigo and Caleb Folse handed
Alejandro Ley and
Joan Garros a 6-2 defeat.
Harding won three of the first four singles match to clinch the match win. Solrzano beat Ramnath 6-3, 6-2 at number two singles, at number four singles it was Folse defeating Berdecio in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and in the first singles contest it was ninth ranked de Ruiter beating Ley in straight sets 6-0, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3.
UMSL got wins from Siercke as he knocked off Mikkelsen in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at number four singles and Roberts beat D'Arrigo by retirement with the match tied at a set piece and Roberts led 3-2 when D'Arrigo retired. Garros fell to Luis Agullo 6-1, 6-3 in the final singles contest.
The Tritons return to the courts on Sunday (March 23) traveling to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst at 11 a.m.
