ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team picked up its third straight win rallying to defeat Harding 4-2 on Friday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Tritons improve to 6-1 while the Lady Bison fall to 6-8.
Harding won two of the three doubles contests to take the first point of the match. The No. 39 doubles team of Karli Roux and Alexia Zarate Valdez defeated
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez 6-1 and the team of Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz and Madison Stafford defeated
Giuliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney 6-4. UMSL's number two doubles team of
Anna Favaron and
Morgan Lint beat Natalia Alvarez and Itza Rogel 6-3.
The Tritons fell behind 2-0 as Lopez fell to Roux, ranked No. 32 in Division II, 0-6, 6-2, 6-0 but rallied to win the final four matches to clinch the victory. Lint got UMSL on the board defeating Stafford in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at number four singles. In the number three singles match it was Favaron knocking off Rogel 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 and Tse beat No. 16 Valdez 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1) to put UMSL in front 3-2.
It came down to the number six singles match with Sweeney beating Alvarez in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the victory. The fifth singles match between Cunza and Ruiz was tied at a set apiece when the match was completed.
The Tritons return to the courts on Sunday (March 23) traveling to Kansas City to take on Rockhurst at 11 a.m.
