KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped in a 6-1 loss against Rockhurst at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons drop to 6-2 while the Hawks improve to 6-4.
UMSL won the first doubles contest as its number three duo of
Giuliana Cunza and
Lauren Sweeney defeated Sofia Valdespino and Maria Baez 6-1. Rockhurst won the final doubles matches as the No. 29 doubles team of Ella Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd beat
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez 7-5 and the team of Dani Lentisco and Marina Magai clinched the doubles point defeating
Anna Favaron and
Morgan Lint 6-4.
In singles competition, Tse picked up the lone win for the Tritons as she defeated No. 10 Ella Coleman 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) at number one singles. Sweeney fell to Baez 6-0, 6-0 in the number six singles contest, Lint lost to Magai 6-1, 6-4 at number four singles and Lopez lost to Valdespino 7-5, 6-0 in the number two singles match. Cunza fell to Lentisco 6-1, 6-1 and Favaron lost to Szmyd 6-1, 6-4.
UMSL returns to the courts hosting Quincy on Saturday (March 29) at 12 p.m. at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
