ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Central Missouri 7-0 and 8-6 at Jennies Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Tritons drop to 11-14 while the Jennies improve to 17-11.
Game 1 UCM 7 UMSL 0
UCM jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Taylor Thompson hit a three-run home run just to the right of center to bring home Bailey Brumley and Jadyn Sheffield.
A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth by Brook Weimer added to the Jennies total, making the score 4-0. Then Thompson struck out swinging on a dropped third strike as Lexi Blackmon scored on the throw to first to extend the lead to 5-0.
Weimer and Blackmon added RBI singles in the sixth to make it 7-0.
The Tritons had two hits with
Simia Spahiev and
Hannah Tomlianovich having one apiece.
Lexi Sherrick went 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits and striking out five to fall to 2-2 on the year.
Game 2 – UCM 8 UMSL 6
The second game of the doubleheader was a back and forth affair.
UMSL struck first in the nightcap as Spahiev doubled to right field, bringing home
May Pasqualini to give the Tritons a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Jennies tied it in the bottom of the first. Thompson hit a double to center right to bring Blackmon home from third base.
UMSL scored two in the second inning. Sherrick singled to center to drive in Tomlianovich and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder. Two batters later, Pasqualini grounded out to second to bring home Sherrick with the second run of the inning.

Phoebe Miller double in the top of the third saw Spahiev score from second base. Later in the inning Sherrick singled up the middle to drive in
Gwyn Miller and make the score 5-1 in favor of the Tritons.
The Jennies answered in the bottom of the third. Marisa Johnson tripled to bring home two runners, making the score 5-3 in favor of UMSL.
Miller added to the Triton lead in the fourth, bringing home a run with a double to right field to score Spahiev.
Central Missouri cut the deficit to 6-5 on a two-run single from Thompson in the home half of the fourth and then took the lead with three in the sixth on two bases loaded walks and an infield single.
Ashley Borowitz pitched 4.1 innings with three strike outs, giving up five runs on eight hits.
Ashley Ware took the loss allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts but walked five in 1.2 innings pitched to fall to 3-6. The Tritons had 15 hits in the contest and were led by Sherrick and Spahiev with three hits apiece.
UMSL is back at home this Saturday hosting Illinois Springfield in a doubleheader at the UMSL Softball Field starting at noon.
