ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team opened the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule dropping the series opener to Missouri S&T 10-9 on Friday afternoon at the Ballpark at S&T in Rolla, Mo. The Tritons fall to 10-6, 0-1 GLVC while the Miners move to 7-3, 1-0 GLVC.
S&T jumped out to an early lead as Nick Krodinger hit a two-run single through the left side of the infield in the home half of the third. The Miners added to their lead getting two solo home runs in the fifth.
UMSL rallied in the sixth getting two-run home runs from
Cade Grevengoed and
Noah Tamaras to tie the score at four.
S&T retook the lead in its half of the seventh on an RBI single from Garrett Meyer and two-run single from Nick Hooper to take a 7-4 lead. The Miners final run of the frame came on passed ball as Krodinger scored from third.
The Tritons got a run back in the eighth as they loaded the bases with no one out. Tomaras hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring
Luke Saxton.
UMSL took its first lead of the game scoring four runs in the ninth. Saxton hit a double to left center that scored
Barrett Rose. After a walk loaded the bases,
Mitch Bonczkowski grounded out to third scoring
Andrew Buescher. The Tritons took the lead on
Logan McIntyre's two-out two-run pinch hit single scoring Saxton and Grevengoed.
The Miners won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out rally. Hooper started it with a single and Andrew Hedgecorth tied with a double to right center. S&T won the game as Hedgecorth stole third and scored when Tomaras' throw went into left field.
UMSL had 10 this in the contest and were led by Buescher and Saxton with two apiece. Tomaras had three RBI in the contest while Grevengoed and McIntyre had two RBI each.
Cody Brooks took the loss giving up two runs, one earned on two hits to fall to 3-1 on the season.
The Tritons and Miners continue their four-game weekend series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
