Softball Falls to Rockhurst on Sunday

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader against Rockhurst 7-2 and 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the UMSL Softball Field. The Tritons fall to 7-10, 0-4 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 6-10, 3-1 GLVC.

Game 1 – Rockhurst 7 UMSL 2
Rockhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run home run to right center off the bat of Mya Bristow. The Hawks added four more in the third getting RBI hits from Claire Tipton, Emily Berry, Jayla Pierce and Lily Hance.

UMSL got two of those runs back in the fourth on an RBI single from Kaytie Kossina and an RBI double from Gwyn Miller off the base of the fence in left center.

Rockhurst's final run came in the sixth as Tipton drove in her second run of the contest with a single to left center.

The Tritons had eight hits in the contest and were led by Kossina and Courtney Settles with two apiece. Ashley Ware took the loss giving up five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings pitched with five strikeouts to fall to 2-4 on the year.

Game 2 – Rockhurst 3 UMSL 0
The second game of the twinbill was scoreless through five innings until the Hawks broke through against Ashley Borowitz in the sixth. Eva Fulk broke the scoreless deadlock with a single to left center scoring Kerstyn Finch. McKenna Lester and Berry added RBI hits later in the inning for the only runs of the contest.

UMSL mustered up a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh as Miller walked and Kossina singled up the middle to bring the tying run to the plate but Borowitz struck out to end the ball game.

The Tritons were held to two hits in the nightcap with Kossina and Phoebe Miller recording one each. Borowitz took the loss allowing three runs on eight hits while matching her season-high with seven strikeouts to fall to 4-4.

UMSL begins an eight-game road trip next Saturday traveling to Jefferson City, Mo., to take on Lincoln in a doubleheader starting at noon.
