ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 9-4 loss to Rockhurst at the UMSL Baseball Field on Friday afternoon. The Tritons fall to 21-17, 10-11 GLVC while the Hawks improve to 17-15, 7-10 GLVC.
UMSL jumped out to an early lead thanks to
Andrew Buescher's two-out two-run double just inside the left field line that scored
Barrett Rose and
Mitch Bonczkowski in the first inning.
Rockhurst took the lead in the third scoring three runs on three hits and a walk. Michael Laudando tied the game with a two-run single up the middle and Andrew Loeffelman gave them the lead with a single to left.
The Hawks added two more in the fifth and broke it open in the sixth scoring four runs.
The Tritons scored twice in their half of the sixth getting RBI singles from Buescher and
Garrett Strenger to chase the Rockhurst starter after 5.2 innings pitched. UMSL loaded the bases but Jake Canent retired on
Cooper Blythe on a fly ball to center on the first pitch he threw to end the inning.
The Tritons got a lead-off single from
Braedon Stoakes in the seventh but couldn't get home.
The Hawks outhit UMSL 12-6 in the contest. Buescher led the Tritons with two hits while Stoakes, Strenger, Bonczkowski and
Logan McIntyre had one apiece.
Dustin Hagens took the loss giving up three runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched to fall to 2-4.
UMSL and Rockhurst continue its four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
