ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team broke out the bats as it split its doubleheader with Rockhurst at the UMSL Baseball Field on Saturday. The Hawks won game 1 8-2 but the Tritons won the nightcap 14-4. UMSL improves to 22-18, 11-12 GLVC while Rockhurst is 18-16, 8-11 GLVC.
Game 2 – UMSL 14 Rockhurst 4
The Tritons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the home half of the first in game two.
Barrett Rose drove in a run with sacrifice fly to right that scored
Owen Polly and
Braedon Stoakes scored on a throwing error by the right fielder to make it 2-0.
Noah Tomaras scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 and
Justin Simard drew a bases loaded walk scoring
Logan McIntyre.
The Hawks got a run back in the second as Dakota Hanna picked up an RBI on a groundout to second.
UMSL broke it open in the second scoring five runs highlighted by Tomaras's grand slam down the left field line. Rose added an RBI single in the inning as well.
Rockhurst got back-to-back home runs from Adonis Forte and Andrew Loeffelman in the third to cut the deficit to 9-3 but the Tritons responded with three in the fourth to extend the lead to 12-3.
Andrew Buescher put the nail in the coffin hitting a two-run home run down the left field line for the 24th of his Triton career to tie him for the most in school history.
The Hawks got a run in the seventh for the final margin.
UMSL finished with nine hits in the nightcap and were led by Stoakes and McIntyre with two apiece.
Nate Zyzda went the first three innings allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts to improve to 1-0 on the season.
Game 1 – Rockhurst 8 UMSL 2
Rockhurst scored first in the opener with a run in the second inning on Patrick Wind's RBI single.
The Tritons tied it in the home half of the second as Polly hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring

The Hawks retook the lead with five runs in the third. Peyton Clerk had the big hit in the inning delivering a two-run single to center to make it 4-1. Rockhurst added two more in the fifth on a two-run single from Michael Laudando to extend the lead to 8-1.
UMSL's final run came in the fifth as Stoakes reached on a fielder's choice scoring Polly.
The Tritons were held to five hits in game one and were led by Rose with two.
Bryce Nicolay took the loss giving up six runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings to fall to 3-2.
UMSL and Rockhurst wrap up their four-game series with a single game on Sunday at noon at the UMSL Baseball Field.
