Tritons Blank UIS To Begin GLVC Play

ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team won all seven of its matches to defeat Illinois Springfield 7-0 to start Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts. The Tritons improve to 8-6, 1-0 GLVC while the Prairie Stars drop to 0-9, 0-1 GLVC.

UMSL's No. 1 doubles team of Tanin Ramnath and Percy Siercke beat Viktor Karpati and Antonio Ayerbe 6-0 while the number two doubles squad of Alejandro Ley and Daniel Berdecio defeated Lin En Tan and Pablo Herrera 6-4.

In the singles portion of the match the Tritons completed the sweep winning all five matches. Ley handed Karpati a 6-4, 6-0 defeat at No. 1 singles, Siercke defeated Ayerbe 6-3, 6-4 at number three singles and Ramnath held off a comeback attempt from Herrera to win 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (11-9) to clinch the victory. Berdecio beat Tan in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 and Roberts knocked off Lukas Pieringer 6-2, 6-2.

UMSL plays its final home match of the season against Lewis at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the UMSL Tennis Courts.
