ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 win over Lewis at the UMSL Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons improve to 9-6, 2-0 GLVC while the Flyers drop to 4-11, 1-1 GLVC.
Lewis took two of the three doubles matches to claim the opening point of the dual. It's number one doubles team of Indrek Soome and Roberto Leal beat
Tanin Ramnath and
Percy Siercke 6-2 while it's number two squad of Gabriel Haro Cuenca and Sarvar Azamatov defeated
Alejandro Ley and
Daniel Berdecio 6-4. UMSL's number three doubles team of
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros defeated Santiago Carabajal and Grant Miller 6-4.
In singles play, Ley won by retirement over Leal at number one singles to tie the match at 1-1. He won the first set 6-4 and was leading 4-2 when Leal retired. Siercke gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead with his 6-3, 6-2 win over Cuenca at number three singles. The Flyers tied the match at two as Soome defeated Ramnath 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at number two singles.
UMSL clinched the match getting wins from Berdecio in the number four singles contest over Azamatov 6-1, 6-3 and Roberts defeated Carabajal 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) at number five singles to complete the comeback. The final singles match between Garros and Miller was won by Miller as Garros retired in the third set with the match tied at a set apiece.
The Tritons play their final three matches of the regular season on the road starting next Friday as they'll travel to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds at 1 p.m. (CDT) at the UIndy Tennis Center.
