ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team swept it's doubleheader against Quincy 4-3 and 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Softball Field. The sweep improves the Tritons to 14-21, 7-13 GLVC while the Hawks fall to 7-31, 3-17 GLVC.

Game 1 - UMSL 4 Quincy 3
UMSL scored the first run of the game in the second inning.
Megan Russell reached base on an error by the shortstop to lead off the second inning. With one out and runners at second third,
May Pasqualini hit a ground ball to short. Kenzie Moss got the out at first but
Rylie Buchanan got in a rundown between second and third allowing Russell to cross the plate without a throw.

Quincy answered in the fourth inning. Moss doubled to right center to score Kinsey Biggerstaff from first base to tie the score. A Jess Martin sacrifice fly left was deep enough to score Moss and give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

The Tritons evened the score in the bottom of the fourth. With two out,
Julia Sandles walked and scored on Pasqualini's double to left center. Allison Kaizer initially hauled it in but collided with the fence and the ball was jarred loose.

In the sixth inning, Quincy once again took the lead when Martin sent a fly ball to right field that dropped inside the foul line to score Moss from third base.

Another Pasqualini double, this time to center field, scored Russell, who had singled to third base in her at bat, tying the game at three heading into the seventh inning.

Simia Spahiev won the game with a walk off home run to center field, giving the Tritons the 4-3 win.

UMSL finished with 11 hits in the contest and were led by Spahiev with three while Pasqualini,
Hannah Tomlianovich and
Gwyn Miller had two hits each. Spahiev finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Lexi Sherrick picked up the win to improve to 3-3, pitching 1.2 innings and giving up no runs on zero hits with one strikeout.

Game 2 – UMSL 6 Quincy 1
After a back and forth game one, the Tritons ran away early with game two with four runs in the first two innings.

Jamie Widule got UMSL started with a double to center field in the first inning, scoring Tomlianovich and Spahiev. The Tritons added another two runs in the second inning when Tomlianovich doubled to left center and brought home Sandles and Russell to make it 4-0.

Quincy got a run back in the sixth inning. Moss doubled down the right field line to bring home Isabella Shields from first base.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sphaiev hit a two-run home run to left center, for her second roundtripper of the day and fifth of the season to bring home Tomlianovich.

That was all the run support that
Ashley Borowitz needed as she went the distance giving up one run five hits and struck out six to improve to 7-8 on the season. UMSL finished with nine hits in game two and were led by Tomlianovich with three while Widule and Russell had two each.

The Tritons host Dog at the Park Day on Sunday (April 13) for their doubleheader against Upper Iowa starting at 12 p.m. at the UMSL Softball Field.
