ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team edged Lewis 4-3 at the UMSL Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons improve to 9-4, 2-0 GLVC while the Flyers drop to 5-9, 0-2 GLVC.
The two sides split the two doubles matches that were contested as Lewis' number one doubles team of Jordane Dookie and Sofia Vdovychenko defeated
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez 7-6 (7-1). UMSL's number two doubles team of
Anna Favaron and
Morgan Lint knocked off Sreevally Medishetti and Benedetta Luccone 6-4. The Tritons won the doubles point as the number three doubles match was defaulted to them.
In singles competition, UMSL extended its lead to 2-0 as the number six singles contest was defaulted to them. Lewis won the next three matches to take a 3-2 lead. Dookie upset Tse 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 and Medishetti beat Lopez 6-0, 6-4 at number two singles. Favaron fell to Vdovychenko 6-1, 6-4 at number three singles.
At No. 4 singles it was
Morgan Lint defeating Luccone 6-2, 6-4 to even the match at three. It came down to No. 5 singles and Cunza cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Avelynn Wen to clinch the victory for the Tritons.
UMSL plays its final three matches of the regular season on the road starting next Friday as they'll travel to Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds at 1 p.m. (CDT) at the UIndy Tennis Center.
