LIBERTY, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team split its series against William Jewell winning game one 7-5 in nine innings but fell in game two 6-0 at Cardinal Field on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons record is now 18-25, 11-15 GLVC while the Cardinals are 23-25, 10-16 GLVC.
GAME 1 - UMSL 7 WILLIAM JEWELL 5
UMSL sent nine batters to the dish in the first inning of the opener scoring five runs on four hits.
Jamie Widule and
Gwyn Miller hit back-to-back singles to plate the first two runs of the contest.
Kaytie Kossina reached on a fielder's choice that scored Widule and
Rylie Buchanan capped the inning with a two-run single to left.
WJC cut the Triton lead to 5-4 with four runs in the fourth. Amanda Chung had an RBI single and Alexa Almejo hit a three-run home run to center.
The Cardinals tied the game in the sixth on a two-out RBI single from Chung.
The Tritons retook the lead in the ninth as Kossina reached on a fielding error by Addie Bell that brought home
Simia Spahiev with the go-ahead run and
Phoebe Miller hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to center scoring Widule.
UMSL had 12 hits in the contest and were led by Spahiev with three while Widule, Miller and
May Pasqualini added two apiece.
Ashley Ware pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and striking out six to improve to 5-10 on the season.

The Triton offense was held in check in the second game as Avery Reynolds held them without a baserunner until the sixth inning and without a hit until
Hannah Tomlianovich led off the seventh with a double.
William Jewell scored in the first with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Emma Jane Ogle.
The Cardinals added four more runs in the third inning starting with an RBI double to left field by Chung that scored two runs. A Tori Woodard home run down the left field line added another two runs to close out the inning.
The final run came in the sixth inning when Mikayla Chairez singled up the middle, scoring the run to make it 6-0.
Lexi Sherrick took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up four runs on five hits. Tomlianovich had the only hit of the game for the Tritons.
UMSL plays its final games of the regular season on Sunday traveling to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman State at 12 p.m. at Bulldog Park.
