ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team defeated Maryville 4-3 in its regular season finale to clinch a spot in next week's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. The Tritons improve to 10-6, 3-2 GLVC while the Saints finish their season with a record of 8-8, 2-3 GLVC.
UMSL will be the number three seed from the GLVC East Division and will take on Drury who is the second seed from the GLVC West Division.
The Tritons won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the dual match.
Morgan Lint and
Anna Favaron won at number two doubles over Nazli Saka and Isabella Alvarez 6-0 while
Hannah Tse and
Aleksandra Lopez defeated Grace Brown and Luana Luersen 6-4 at number one doubles to clinch the doubles point.
UMSL extended its lead as Lopez defeated Victoria Lisson 6-1, 6-3 at number two singles and Tse held off a rally from Saka to win 6-0, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0 in the first singles match. Maryville cut the deficit to 3-1 as Alvarez beat Favaron in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Lint secured the win for the Tritons beating Brown in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
The Saints won the final two singles matches.
UMSL and Drury will play in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament next Friday (May 2) in Springfield, Ill.
