ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team battled but dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Lewis 3-0 and 7-6 on Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Softball Field in Romeoville, Ill. The Tritons are now 11-20, 4-12 GLVC while the Flyers improve to 28-12, 14-2 GLVC.

Game 1 – Lewis 3 UMSL 0
Despite outhitting the GLVC leaders in Lewis, UMSL dropped the opener 3-0.

The Flyers jumped on top in the home half of the second on Katie Jensen's solo home run to right field. Lewis extended its lead in the fourth as Erica Hoffman brought home Kristen Graham with a groundout to short with the bases loaded.

Hoffman made it 3-0 doubling home Anna Frajford for the final run of the contest.

The Tritons had five hits from five different players, leaving nine on base.
Ashley Ware pitched six innings, giving up three runs on four hits, with three strike outs and is now 3-9 on the season.

Game 2 – Lewis 7 UMSL 6
The Tritons took the early lead in the second game on
Simia Spahiev's three-run home run to left center for her third roundtripper of the season.

Lewis answered in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run of their own as Anna Frafjord sent hit one out to center field to tie the game.Â

Spahiev added an RBI single to center field in the fourth inning, driving in
Phoebe Miller. Later in the inning,
Hannah Tomlianovich hit a two-run double to left bringing home Spahiev and
Jamie Widule.

The Flyers rallied in the home half of the fourth scoring four runs on four hits. Delaney Garden hit a two-run single to right scoring Grace Kmak and Ava Reed to make it a one-run game. Frafjord put Lewis on top with a two-run doble to center scoring Graham and Garden.

The Tritons had seven hits in the nightcap and were led by Spahiev and Tomlianovich with two each.
Ashley Borowitz went the distance giving up seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts but walked five to drop to 6-7 on the season.

UMSL concludes its road trip on Sunday traveling to Indianapolis to take on UIndy in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (CDT) at Beech Grove High School.
