ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team snapped its eight-game losing streak with a 5-1 win at UIndy in game one of its doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Beech Grove High School in Indianapolis. The Greyhounds won the second game 4-2. The Tritons are 12-21, 5-13 GLVC while UIndy is 24-14, 12-6 GLVC.
Game 1 – UMSL 5 UIndy 1
The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the first on Josie Jager's double to left that scored Brooklyn Willis.
UMSL took the lead in the fourth on
Hannah Tomlianovich's two-run home run to left center for her first long ball of the season. The Tritons added to their lead in the sixth as Tomlianovich reached on an error by Jocelyn Calvin that scored
May Pasqualini.
UIndy threatened in the sixth loading the bases with two out but
Ashley Ware got Cara Cooper to pop out to Pasqualini to end the inning.
UMSL added some insurance in the seventh on Pasqualini's two-run double to center scoring
Megan Russell and
Lexi Sherrick.
The Tritons had seven hits in game one and were led by Pasqualini with two while Tomlianovich, Sherrick, Russell,
Rylie Buchanan and
Jamie Widule had one each. Ware picked up the win in the circle tossing the final five innings allowing no runs on three hits to improve to 4-9.
Game 2 – UIndy 4 UMSL 2
The second game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth. The Greyhounds took advantage of an error in the frame and got a three-run double from Jager to jump on top.
UMSL got RBI singles from Widule and
Simia Spahiev in the sixth to cut UIndy's lead to 3-2. The Tritons had a chance for more but
Phoebe Miller lined out to left for the final out of the frame.
The Hounds added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on Sydney Oliver's RBI single that brought home Willis.
UMSL had five hits in game two with Pasqualini, Widule, Spahiev, Buchanan and
Kaytie Kossina picking up one apiece.
Ashley Borowitz took the loss giving up four runs, one earned, on five hits with five strikeouts to drop to 6-8.
The Tritons return home on Saturday (April 12) to begin a seven-game homestand starting with Quincy at 12 p.m. at the UMSL Softball Field.
