SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team defeated Quincy 4-2 in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference men's tennis tournament on Friday evening at Sacred Heart Griffin High School in Springfield, Ill. The Tritons improve to 12-7 while the Hawks end their season with a record of 13-9.

UMSL, seeded second in the GLVC East, won the first two doubles matches to win the opening point of the contest. The Tritons number two tandem of Alejandro Ley and Daniel Berdecio handed Gianni Lopez and Rodrigo Coello Trevino a 6-2 defeat and the team of Henry Roberts and Joan Garros beat Marko Cucuk and Gerard Abad Puig 6-2. The final doubles match between Percy Siercke and Tanin Ramnath and Joseph Restrepo and Inigo Villacampa was called with UMSL leading 5-4 and the dual was unfinished.

Quincy, seeded third in the GLVC West, picked up a win at No. 1 singles to tie the match at 1-1. The Tritons responded with wins from Roberts over Trevino 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and Siercke beat Lopez 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to take a 3-1 lead in the match.

The Hawks got a win at No. 2 singles to pull within 3-2 before Garros clinched the match defeating Pablo Mateos Niella 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 to clinch the victory for UMSL. The final match between Berdecio and Puig went unfinished with Berdecio leading 3-1 in the third set when the match was clinched.

UMSL advances to the semifinals on Saturday where it will meet Rockhurst, the top seed from GLVC West, at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Griffin High School.
