Men’s Soccer Tabbed To Finish Fifth In GLVC Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the 2025 Great Lakes Valley Conference Preseason Poll announced on Tuesday morning. The poll was voted on by the league's 15 head coaches and per league policy coaches were not eligible to vote for their own teams.

Lewis is the favorite to repeat as league champion as it edged out McKendree for the top spot by two points. The Flyers received 186 total points and seven first place votes while McKendree picked up 184 points and garnered six first place votes. Maryville and UIndy battled it out for the third position with the Saints getting one more point than the Greyhounds with each team receiving a first place vote.

The league's 15 teams will compete in a 14-game round-robin schedule that begins on September 14 and runs through November 2.

The 2025 GLVC Championship Tournament begins on either Nov. 8 or Nov. 9 at campus sites with the semifinals and finals to be held at Creve Coeur Soccer Park in St. Louis, Nov. 13 and Nov. 15.

The Tritons are coming off a 7-5-6 record including 5-3-6 in the GLVC in 2024. UMSL finished the season strong winning ifs final four regular season games to clinch a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2021. The season ended with a loss to McKendree in the first round of the GLVC Tournament. The Bearcats would go on to represent the GLVC in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

The Tritons are under the direction of third year head coach Josh Alderson and returns 12 players from last year's team including starters Gibson Hunt, Colton Milosch, Michael Quinn and Mario Garcia. Hunt is the team's top returning goal scorer tallying two goals and three assists for seven points in his freshman campaign. Roman Ryabchenko added a goal and three assists for a total of five points.

UMSL kicks off its 57th season of intercollegiate play on Thursday, September 4 traveling to Owensboro, Ky., to take on Kentucky Wesleyan at 5 p.m. The Tritons home and GLVC opener is scheduled for Sunday (Sept. 14) against Drury at 2:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
