Men’s Soccer’s Second Half Rally Comes Up Short Against Roosevelt

CHICAGO – The University of Missouri-St. Louis's men's soccer team's second half rally came up short as it fell at Roosevelt 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Morris Field in Chicago. The Tritons drop to 0-1-1 while the Lakers improve to 2-0-1.

Roosevelt struck with two quick goals just past the midway point of the first half. Caco Fernandez put the Lakers in front in the 26th minute scoring off a pass from Noah Vasilev and then 3:21 later Rynn Mewes found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Roosevelt outshot UMSL 11-4 including 3-2 in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Tritons began generating chances in the second half but were held off the scoreboard until the final 10 minutes when Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss beat the keeper to the lower right corner for his first collegiate goal in the 81st minute.

UMSL continued applying the pressure taking three more shots but were unable to put any on target as it ran out of time.

The Lakers outshot the Tritons in the contest 16-11 but UMSL held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Tritons host Drury in their home and conference opener this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
