ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Drury in its home and Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons are 0-1-2, 0-0-1 GLVC while the Panthers are 0-0-3, 0-0-1 GLVC.
UMSL struck first in this one scoring in the 23rd minute.
Colton Milosch took an initial shot that was off target but the Tritons kept position eventually working the ball around to
Tommy Wortham. Wortham sent a cross into the center of the penalty box and
Michael Quinn got a head to it first redirecting past Camden Meyer inside the left post for his first goal of the season.
UMSL went into the intermission with the 1-0 lead but were outshot by Drury 5-3 but the Tritons had a 2-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Panthers scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute. After an UMSL foul near midfield. Joe Loughnane played a pass ahead to Mason Platts. Platts ran onto it, collected it on the left side of the penalty area and fired a shot across the goal inside the right post for his first goal of the season.
UMSL had three attempts to take the lead in a span of 10 minutes but the best one came off the foot of
Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss in the 78th minute. Aoueiss fired a shot from the center of the back but Meyer dove back to his left and made the save to keep the game level.
The Tritons outshot Drury 7-4 in the second half to finish with a 10-9 advantage in shots including 5-4 in shots on goal.
UMSL continues its season-long three-game homestand this Friday (Sept. 19) hosting Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
