Will Kaempfe continued his impressive start to the season winning his second straight race taking the top spot at the Larry Young Invitational on Friday evening at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo.
The Triton men finished sixth with 159 points while the women were eighth with 222 points.
In the men's 8-kilometer race, Kaempfe ran with the lead back for the duration of the race and pulled down the finishing stretch to defeat Columbia College's Kalieb Redda by more than four seconds. Kaempfe covered the course in a time of 25:33.32.
Luke Stevenson was the second Triton to cross the finish line coming in at 28:08.67. He was followed by
Devon Fanning at 28:34.23.
Aaron Guss came in at 29:00.69 and
Armando Montoya finished with a time of 31:08.48.
For the women,
Bella Massaro was the team's top finisher covering the 5-kilometer course with a time of 21:20.10.
Bridget Ragan was the second Triton across the finish line at 22:55.65,
Hannah Richardson had a time of 23:19.89,
Dylan Jinks hit the line at 24:17.45,
Ansley Casey came in at 26:20.92 and
Zoey Losch finished at 29:59.16.
UMSL returns to the course next Friday (Sept. 19) heading to Peoria, Ill., for the Bradley Intercollegiate at Detweiler Park. The men's race starts at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's race at 6 p.m.
