Second Half Rally Lifts Tritons To Fourth Straight Win

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team secured a 4-2 come from behind win against Lincoln at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City, Mo., on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons extend their win streak to four and improve to 5-2-1, 4-0-1 GLVC while the Blue Tigers drop to 0-3-2, 0-3-1 GLVC.

Lincoln broke the scoreless deadlock in the 39th minute as Madison Wimberly found Ivanna Faria on the far post. Faria headed the ball in to give the Blue Tigers a 1-0 lead.

UMSL answered with two quick goals to start of the second half. Josie Maddox made a run down the right side, cut it into the center box and attempted a cross but Michelle Granja got a piece of it. Maddie Clark ran it down and found a cutting Rachel Skyberg who buried it into the upper right corner for her second goal of the season.

The Tritons scored again 0:32 later to take the lead. Gwen Maggard played the ball ahead to Skyberg who turned and found Ella Anselm. Anselm got in behind the defense and beat Granja to the lower right for her second goal of the weekend.

It was Anselm again in the 64th minute, finding her way through the Lincoln defense to score her second of the game, third of the season and what proved to be her second game-winner of the weekend.

Lincoln got a goal back in the 71st minute when Faria found Angela Reynolds in the box. Reynolds took her space and scored, making it 3-2 in favor of UMSL.

In the 85th minute, Clark drove to the center of the pitch and found Maddox making a run on the far side. Maddox put her shot home to the lower left, giving the Tritons their two-goal lead back.

UMSL finished the contest outshooting the Blue Tigers 26-5 including 16-4 in shots on goal. Maddox led the Tritons with eight shots in the contest. Rylee Griffith made two saves, including a diving save to her left late in the game to preserve the Tritons lead.

UMSL concludes its three-game road trip next Sunday (Oct. 5) taking on crosstown rival Maryville in the St. Louis Derby at 12 p.m. at the Maryville Soccer Field.
