UMSL Swim Splits With Henderson State

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams split its dual against Henderson State on Saturday morning at the UMSL Swimming Pool.
The No. 24 ranked women's team defeated the Reddies 199-59 while the No. 25 ranked HSU men beat the Tritons 150-112.

UMSL's women won all 14 events in the dual and were led by Justice Beard with three event wins. Beard claimed the top spot in the 1,000 free (10:32.02), the 200 fly (2:10.25) and the 500 free (5:09.49). She was also part of the 200 free relay along with Audrey Lantz, Madison Bottorff and Romina Itzkovich that had the winning time of 1:39.10.

A. Lantz also won three events taking the top spots in the 50 free (24.49 seconds), 100 free (54.74 seconds) and the 100 fly (1:00.06). Uxue Oritz de Pinedo won both the 100 and 200 breast strokes with times of 1:07.83 and 2:26.12 respectively. Ella Lantz won the 100 and 200 backstroke events in times of 58.65 seconds and 2:09.34. Lantz swam the lead-off leg of the 200 medley relay winning quartet along with Itzkovich, Stella Garrison and Kayla Rompala with a time of 1:50.58.

Libby Smith won the 200 free in a time of 2:00.89 and Itzkovich claimed the win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.68.

On the men's side, Aaron Wicklund won the 200 breast stroke touching the wall at 2:10:30 and finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 59.68 seconds while Kaleb Suitor was the winner in the 100 back at 52.83 and 100 fly with a time of 52.10. Lathan Parks out touched Oliver Pozval by .02 seconds to win the 50 free and was the runner-up behind Suitor in the 100 fly in a time of 53.28 seconds.

Donald Saunders and Mattia Nardi finished second and third in the 200 free with times of 1:45.13 and 1:46.20 respectively. Dylan Bonnett took second behind Wicklund in the 200 breast at 2:10.92. Carson Ring finished third in the 500 free with a time of 4:56.49. Nardi came in third in the 200 IM at 1:57.21.

UMSL's 200 free relay foursome of Parks, Maxwell Wetteland, Gabriel Wells and Joan Cortadellas Llubera finished second at 1:26.16 and the 200 medley relay quartet of Wetteland, Landon Hanesworth, Suitor and Cortadellas Llubera was second with a time of 1:35.41.

The Tritons host Saint Louis University in their final home dual of the season next Friday (January 23) at 5 p.m. at the UMSL Swimming Pool. UMSL will honor its seniors prior to the start of the meet.
