ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming team resumed their 2025-26 schedule with a dual meet at Washington University-St. Louis at Millstone Pool on Friday evening.
The Triton men fell to the Bears 124-72 and the women lost 160-73.
Justice Beard led the way for the women winning the 200 and 500 freestyle races. She won the 200 by over half a second against Iris Qi with a time of 1:54.38 and the 500 free in a time of 5:04.25. Beard also swam the anchor leg on the winning 200 free relay team along with
Audrey Lantz,
Madison Bottorff and
Romina Itzkovich. The quartet turned in a time of 1:39.96.
UMSL's 200 medley relay foursome of
Aeri La,
Stella Garrison, Lantz and Itzkovich finished second at 1:50.86.
Libby Smith finished third in the 1,000 free in a time of 10:54.16,
Callie Clinton took third in the 100 fly at 1:01.44 with Itzkovich finishing right behind her in fourth with a time of 1:01.74. La and Lantz took third and fourth in the 100 backstroke in times of 1:01.54 and 1:01.70 respectively.
On the men's side, the Tritons 200 medley relay squad of
Maxwell Wetteland,
Landon Hanesworth,
Kaleb Suitor and
Lathan Parks finished third in a time of 1:35.76 while UMSL's second team in the relay of
Gabriel Wells,
Dylan Bonnett,
Donald Saunders and
Joan Cortadellas Llubera was fourth at 1:35.97.
Carson Ring and Saunders came in third and fourth in the 1,000 free with times of 10:22.72 and 10:47.11 respectively.
Aaron Wicklund took fourth in the 200 free in a time of 1:46.08 while Wells was the runner-up in the 50 free with a time of 21.76 seconds. Parks finished second in the 100 free at 48.11 while Wicklund was fourth in the race with a time of 48.26 seconds.
The Triton 200 free relay team of Parks, Suitor, Wells and Llubera won with a time of 1:25.21 while the second squad of Wetteland,
Isaac Scherman, Wicklund and
Mattia Nardi posted a time of 1:27.26.
UMSL hosts Henderson State on Saturday (Jan. 17) at 10 a.m. at the UMSL Swimming Pool inside the Mark Twain Building.
