ST. LOUIS -- The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team eked out a 62-61 overtime win over Quincy on Friday night at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons improve to 9-2, 5-0 GLVC while the Hawks drop to 4-7, 1-3 GLVC.
UMSL trailed 40-39 heading into the final quarter. It opened the stanza on an 8-2 run behind four points from
Mara Rieder and two each from
Morgan Ramthun and
Anna Costa Riera to take its largest lead of the contest with 4:46 remaining.
The two sides traded baskets with the Tritons still holding a five-point lead with two minutes to go. Acheampomaa Danso made two free throws to cut the margin to three and then after a turnover Sydney Runsewe hit a three from the right corner to tie the game at 49.
After another UMSL turnover, Runsewe hit another three to give Quincy a 52-49 with 1:06 left in the frame.
A wild sequence ensued on the next possession. The Tritons turned it over but the Hawks gave it right back leading to layup from Rieder to make it a one-point game with less than a minute to play. UMSL got a stop on the defensive end and
Jayden Kuper was fouled with 0:26 left and hit 1-of-2 free throws to level the score at 52.
Rieder blocked Katey Flynn's go-ahead layup attempt but Hayven Harden got the rebound but missed the putback and Ramthun got the rebound with 9.9 remaining. The Tritons had a chance to win it but Rieder's jumper was short and Quincy got the rebound to send the game to overtime.
In the extra session UMSL scored four of the first five points to take a three-point advantage but Runsewe hit her third trey of the night to even it at 56.
Costa Riera gave the Tritons the lead for good hitting a driving layup with 2:06 left. Two free throws from Rieder extended the lead to four with 1:29 to play.
The Hawks cut the margin to two on basket from Harden and then had a chance to tie it with 0:32 left but Hampton Williams made 1-of-2 at the foul line.

Lexi Hanna who hit both free throws to extend the lead to three.
The Hawks had one final chance but Runsewe's three was off the mark. Williams got the rebound but her shot was blocked by Rieder and the ball stayed with Quincy. Harden hit a layup with 0:00.7 left but UMSL got the ball in bounds and dribbled out the clock to hold on for the win.
UMSL didn't shoot the ball very well making only 34 percent (27-for-63) from the field including 3-of-18 from three but did shoot 77 percent at the foul line. It outscored the Hawks 21-to-18 in points off turnovers and 38-to-36 in points in the paint. The Triton defense forced 22 Hawk turnovers.
Rieder led all scorers with a game-high 23 points and was joined in double figures by Ramthun and Kuper with 10 points each. Ramthun also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds while Costa Riera had a game-high four assists. Rieder added nine boards, four steals, four blocks and three assists.
Quincy finished the game shooting 43 percent (25-for-56) from the floor, was 4-of-12 from three but shot 50 percent at the foul line. It outrebounded the Tritons 44-to-38. Harden led the Hawks with 15 points while Williams and Danso added 11 and 10 points respectively.
UMSL wraps up its four-game homestand on Sunday hosting Upper Iowa at 1 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
