O'FALLON, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams took on McKendree on its final tune up before the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship meet on Friday afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Ill.
The Triton men fell to the seventh ranked Bearcats 172-91 while the No. 24 Triton women lost to McKendree 127-91.
UMSL's women picked up event wins from
Libby Smith who won the 1,000 free (10:56.95),
Justice Beard won the 200 free (1:50.02),
Chiara Alberola claimed the top spot in the 200 fly (2:12.91) and
Callie Clinton was the winner in the 200 back (2:13.35).
Madison Bottorff was the runner-up in the 100 back (1:01.52),
Kelsey Roth finished second in the 50 free (25.07) and 500 free (5:23.58), Beard took second in the 100 fly (58.22),
Uxue Ortiz de Pinedo finished second in the 200 breast (2:20.84) and Clinton was second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.91).
The Tritons 200 medley relay squad of
Ella Lantz,
Stella Garrison,
Audrey Lantz and
Romina Itzkovich finished second with a time of 1:49.64 and the 400 free relay quartet of A. Lantz, Itzkovich, E. Lantz and Beard was the runner up (3:35.18).
On the men's side,
Landon Hanesworth and
Gabriel Wells finished 1-2 in the 100 breast with times of 57.01 and 57.14 seconds respectively while
Mattia Nardi claimed fourth in the event (57.65).
Mikael Larsson was the winner in the 200 back (1:52.26) and
Adam Campbell was the winner in the 200 IM (1:56.53).
Kaleb Suitor was the runner up in the 100 back (50.93),
Lathan Parks and
Owen Frick were second and third in the 100 free with times of 47.56 and 48.81 respectively.
Carson Ring was second in the 500 free (4:50.09).
UMSL's 400 free relay foursome of
Gentry Comstock,
Joan Cortadellas Llubera,
Donald Saunders and
Aaron Wicklund turned in a time of 3:05.
The Tritons will compete in the 2026 GLVC Swimming and Diving Championships beginning on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Ind. The championships will be a five day meet concluding on Saturday (Feb. 14). The first day of the championships will feature the men's and women's 800 free relays starting at 6 p.m.
