ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team was defeated by Division I Southern Indiana 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 1-5 while the Screaming Eagles improve to 3-3.
UMSL won two of the three doubles matches to take the opening point of the dual.
Joan Garros and
Henry Roberts dropped the No. 3 doubles match to Adam Koon and Mathys Bove 6-1 but the No. 1 doubles squad of
Percy Siercke and
Tommy Griese beat Axel Sabourin and Jy Hibbert 6-3. The second doubles match between
Tanin Ramnath and
Daniel Berdecio and Aaron Dawson and Kalani Hibbert went to a tiebreak with Ramnath and Berdecio prevailing 7-4 to win the match 7-6.
USI won five of the six singles matches to rally for the victory. Bove beat Berdecio in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, Siercke lost to Dawson in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 0-1 (6-7) in the second singles contest and Griese fell at No. 1 singles to Sabourin 6-4, 6-4. The Tritons got on the board as
Andrea Ricart defeated K. Hibbert 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-9) to cut the deficit to 3-2 but the Screaming Eagles won the final two matches to clinch the victory as Koon beat Ramnath 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (7-6) at No. 5 singles and Roberts was beaten by J. Hibbert 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (6-7) in the fourth singles contest.
UMSL returns to the courts on Sunday (March 15) hosting McPherson at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
