ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team edged Division I Southern Indiana 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 4-1 while the Screaming Eagles fall to 1-6.
UMSL won the numbers three and one doubles matches to take the opening point of the contest.
Anna Favaron and
Lauren Sweeney blanked Anais Negrail and Claire Meyer 6-0 while the duo of
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint beat Antonia Ferrarini and Rylie Wilkison 6-4. The number two doubles match between
Millie Wileman and
Aleksandra Lopez and Enna Krnjic and Sofia Davidoff was tied 4-4 when the doubles point was won and went unfinished.
The Tritons won two of the first three singles matches to take a 3-1 lead in the match.
Giuliana Cunza swept Meyer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. USI got on the board with Negrail beating Favaron 6-3, 6-4 in the fifth singles contest. Lopez won her match over Wilkison in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in No.3 singles play.
The Screaming Eagles got wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to tie the match at 3 with Ferrarini beating Tse 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) and Davidoff defeated Wileman 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The match came down to the fourth singles contest with Lint winning in three sets over Krnjic 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (8-7) to clinch the match for UMSL.
The Tritons return to the courts on Sunday (March 15) hosting McPherson at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
