ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team picked up its second straight upsetting No. 50 Northwest Missouri State 4-3 on Saturday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 3-5 while the Bearcats drop to 5-5.
UMSL won the first point of the contest taking two of the three doubles matches.
Daniel Berdecio and
Andrea Ricart defeated Konstantin and Pavlo Vysotin 6-3. NWMSU squared the doubles contest as its second team of Bernardo Henriques and Jules Subra knocked off
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros 6-3. The Tritons won the doubles point as
Percy Siercke and
Tommy Griese handed Gage Foltz and Dominik Wijntjes 6-4.
The Bearcats won the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead in the match. UMSL got wins from Griese as he rallied from a set down to defeat Wijntjes 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) and then Roberts beat Henriques in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) to give the Tritons a 3-2 lead. NWMSU tied it as Wysotin beat Siercke in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). The match came down to number six singles with
Jose Yañez beating Andres Rodrigues 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) to clinch the victory.
The Tritons are back in action on Sunday hosting Rockhurst at 10 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
