ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 5-2 while the Bearcats improve to 9-1.
UMSL secured the first point of the dual winning the first doubles contest as its number two team of
Millie Wileman and
Aleksandra Lopez beat Chiharu Ito and Miru Nonaka 6-0 and the number one squad of
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint knocked off Michelle Kostadinova and Polina Agapitova 6-2.
NWMSU got wins from Ito at No. 3 singles as she beat Lopez 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) and Laura Prieto Sieiro beat Lint 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 in the fourth singles contest to grab a 2-1 lead. Tse tied the match at 2-2 rallying for a three-set win over Nonaka 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) seizing the win at number one singles.
The dual came down to the second and fifth singles matches. Majra Djokic beat Wileman in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to put the Bearcats ahead 3-2 and then Polina Gontaryk defeated
Anna Favaron 6-2, 6-3 at number five singles to clinch the victory for NWMSU. The final singles contest between
Giuliana Cunza and Agapitova went unfinished with Agapitova winning the first set 7-5 when the dual was called.
The Tritons conclude their homestand on Sunday hosting Rockhurst at 10 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
