ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team knocked off 41st ranked Rockhurst 5-2 on Sunday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons improve to 6-2 while the Hawks fall to 4-3.
UMSL swept the doubles portion of the match as its number one squad of
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint handed Ella Coleman and Camila Neyra a 6-2 defeat.
Aleksandra Lopez and
Millie Wileman followed with a 6-2 win over Marina Magal and Zuzanna Szmyd and the number three team of
Anna Favaron and
Lauren Sweeney rallied for a 7-6 (7-3) win against Sofia Valdespino and Maria Baez.
The Tritons carried the momentum from the doubles portion to the singles portion as they won the first three singles matches to secure the victory. Wileman beat Valdespino in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 at number two singles. Lopez followd with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Magal and Lint clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Szmyd.
Giuliana Cunza secured a win at number five singles beating Neyra 6-3, 6-4.
UMSL heads to southern California this week for three matches beginning on Tuesday against Point Loma in San Diego at 3 p.m. (CDT).
