AZUSA, Calif. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team continued its Spring Break trip in Southern California dropping a 6-1 contest to No. 37 Azusa Pacific at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex in Azusa, Calif., on Wednesday. The Tritons drop to 3-8 while the Cougars move to 15-4.
APU won the first point of the dual by winning the first two doubles contests. The No. 17 tandem of Soeren Grandke and Mathys Pinoit defeated
Tommy Griese and
Percy Siercke 6-3 while the team of David Brownlee and Joan Crespo edged
Henry Roberts and
Joan Garros 7-5. The finals doubles match was abandoned with the score tied at 6-6 and the Cougars leading in the tiebreak.
APU won the first three singles matches to clinch the victory. Griese got the Tritons on the board defeating Pinoit in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). The Cougars won the final two singles matches of the contest.
UMSL concludes its Spring Break trip on Friday taking on Westmont at 5 p.m. (CDT) at the Abbott Tennis Courts in Santa Barbara, Calif.
