EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team fell to Davenport 12-7 on Thursday afternoon at Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville, Ill. The Tritons drop to 4-9 while the Panthers move to 4-8.
UMSL struck first with a run in the first inning.
Mitch Bonczkowski brought home
Justin Terhaar with a sacrifice fly to right.
Davenport scored three times in the second inning with Travis Liford driving in the tying run with a single to right and Cam Johnson brought home the go-ahead run with a sac fly to right.
Ayden Cline hit a solo home run in the second to pull the Tritons within a run but the Panthers countered with a run in the top of the third to regain their two-run lead.
The Tritons retook the lead in the home half of the third scoring three runs on four hits and an error.
Brandon Johnson and
Owen Faith each had RBI singles in the frame and Johnson scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
UMSL tacked in single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend its lead to 7-4.
Cooper Blythe drove in
Jimi Oguntuase with a sac fly in the fourth and Bonczkowski scored on a groundout in the fifth.
Davenport tied the game with three runs in the seventh and then regained the lead scoring five times in the ninth aided by two Triton miscues.
UMSL outhit the Panthers 11-10 in the contest and were led by Terhaar, Oguntuase and
Ethan Landis with two hits apiece.
Mitch Schleeper took the loss giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched.
The Tritons return to the diamond on Friday hosting Hillsdale College at 5:30 p.m., at Roy E. Lee Field at Simmons Baseball Complex in Edwardsville, Ill.
