ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team was edged by McKendree 4-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both teams on Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. The Tritons fall to 3-12, 0-1 GLVC while the Bearcats improve to 9-10, 1-0 GLVC.
UMSL dropped the opening point of the contest as McKendree won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the point. The Tritons number three team of
Daniel Berdecio and
Andrea Ricart knocked off Arhaan Pahwal and Aimar Oregui by the score of 6-4 but UMSL lost the next two doubles matches as
Tommy Griese and
Percey Siercke fell to Bendix Schroeder and Ignacio Paolini 6-4 and
Joan Garros and
Henry Roberts lost to Riccardo Ercolani and Felix Diedrichs 6-4.
UMSL won the first two singles matches to seize a 2-1 lead in the dual as Siercke beat Stepan Mach 6-3, 7-5 at number two singles while Griese beat Paolini 6-2, 6-3 in the first singles match.
Jose Yañez fell to Oregui 4-6, 4-6 to square the match at 2-2.
Ricart gave the Tritons a 3-2 lead with his three-set win over Diedrichs 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 in the fifth singles contest but UMSL couldn't close it out as Berdecio lost to Schroeder 6-3, 2-6, 6-7 (5-7) and Roberts fell to Luka Kalenic 3-6, 7-5, 2-6 at number four singles.
The Tritons are back in action on Saturday hosting No. 15 UIndy at 11 a.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
