ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team came up short in a 5-2 loss against crosstown rival Maryville at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis. The Tritons drop to 3-14, 0-3 GLVC while the Saints improve to 6-5, 2-1 GLVC.
Maryville took the opening point of the dual winning two of the three doubles contests. Its number two doubles team of Lorenzo Biava and Jack Quilty defeated
Henry Roberts and
Tanin Ramnath 6-1. UMSL evened it 1-1 as
Tommy Griese and
Percy Siercke defeated Diego Alvarez and Michael Delaloye 7-5. The Saints took the doubles win as its No. 3 team of Maksim Chernogorov and Luca Moribioli beat
Andrea Ricart and
Daniel Berdecio 7-6 (8-6).
Griese and Berdecio got the Tritons on the board with wins in singles play. Griese knocked off Biava 7-5, 6-3 at number one singles and Berdecio handed Delaloye a 6-0, 6-4 defeat in the third singles contest.
Maryville got wins from Markos Prentits as he beat Siercke at number two singles 6-1, 6-2. Alvarez defeated Roberts 6-3, 6-2, Chernogorov beat Ramnath 6-1, 6-1 and Quilty knocked off Ricart 6-0, 6-2.
UMSL plays its final match of the season next Saturday as it travels to Springfield, Ill., to take on the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars at 11 a.m.
