ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team clinched a berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with its 7-0 win over crosstown rival Maryville at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons improve to 12-4, 3-0 GLVC while the Saints drop to 5-6, 1-2 GLVC.
UMSL took the early lead by sweeping the doubles portion of the dual.
Hannah Tse and
Morgan Lint defeated Isabella Alvarez and Nazil Saka 6-2,
Aleksandra Lopez and
Millie Wileman beat Grace Brown and Luana Luersen 6-4 and
Anna Favaron and
Lauren Sweeney knocked off Maria Mateos and Mira Vasileva 7-6 (7-3).
The Tritons carried the momentum into singles play as Lint started it off with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Mateos at number four singles. Lopez followed with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Saka and Tse won the clinching match beating Alvarez in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Wileman rallied for a three-set win over Vasileva 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, Favaron beat Brown in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and
Giuliana Cunza completed the sweep with a 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-2) win in the final singles match.
UMSL wraps up the regular season next Saturday as it travels to Springfield, Ill., for a match against Illinois Springfield at 11 a.m.
