Women’s Tennis Clinches GLVC East Division Title

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team captured its first GLVC East Division title on Saturday with a 7-0 win at William Jewell. The Tritons improve to 13-4, 4-0 GLVC while the Prairie Stars and their season with a record of 8-12, 1-3 GLVC.

It's the second ever divisional title for the women's program and first outright title. It shared the GLVC West Divisional title with Drury and Rockhurst back in 2017.

UMSL swept the three doubles matches to win the opening point of the contest. Aleksandra Lopez and Millie Wileman got it started with a 6-0 victory against Alisha Deogaonkar and Maria Garcia Gama. Hannah Tse and Morgan Lint followed with a 6-2 win over Ema Norma Bordean and Niamh Grogran while Anna Favaron and Lauren Sweeney defeated Jane Carter and Cristina Romero 6-4.

In singles action, Wileman beat Deogaonkar 6-0, 6-2, Tse rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Bordean and Lopez rallied for a three-set win against Romero 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Lint beat Grogan in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, Favaron swept Carter 6-1, 6-1 and Giuliana Cunza beat Gama in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

The Tritons will be the number one seed in the GLVC East Division in next weekend's GLVC Tournament at Center Grove High School in Indianapolis, Ind. UMSL will receive a bye into Saturday's semifinal and will play against the winner of the Drury-Maryville quarterfinal match on Friday.
