BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis finished second out of 20 teams with a total team score of 837 (278-281-278) during the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championships on Wednesday (May 20) afternoon at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
The Tritons tied a school record for lowest score for 54 holes at 837 and recorded the second best score (in relation to par) for 54 holes in the history of the NCAA Division II Championships. Their score was second only to Florida Southern who set the record on Wednesday with a total score of 829 (280-278-271).
UMSL's second place finish is also its highest finish in the stroke play portion of the championships surpassing the tie for fourth at the 2022 championship tournament.
The Tritons were led by
Logan Mayo who finished in a four-way tie for fourth with a 54-hole total score of 206 (67-72-67). Mayo's finish was second best in school history behind Joel Sylven who won the national championship in 2022.
Leo Baudry and
Dani Solavera were in a four-way tie for 1oth at 208. Baudry turned in rounds of 70-69-69 while Solavera had rounds of 68-70-70.
Trigg Lindahl had a final score of 215 (73-70-72) to finish in a tie for 41st.
Ludvig Granlund rounded out the day for UMSL with a 76 and shot a total score of 155 in his two rounds played.
The University of South Carolina-Beaufort's Octavio Laurent was crowned as the individual national champion with a 54-hole total score of 199 (70-66-63). He won by four shots over Colorado Christian's Lance Christensen Jr., who shot a 203 (69-70-64).
The Tritons will be the second seed and take on seventh seeded California State University San Bernardino in the quarterfinal round on Thursday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. (CDT). The winner will face the winner of the match between third seeded Wingate and sixth seeded Columbus State on Thursday afternoon.
