UMSL SAAC Closes Spring Semester with Impactful Fundraising, Campus Engagement, and Senior Recognition

ST. LOUIS - The University of Missouri–St. Louis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) wrapped up a successful spring semester highlighted by meaningful fundraising efforts, campus engagement initiatives, student-athlete programming, and the recognition of its graduating seniors.

One of SAAC's primary goals this year was supporting the NCAA Division II SAAC national partner, Make-A-Wish. Through a variety of creative fundraising efforts, UMSL student-athletes successfully reached their goal of raising $1,000 for the organization.

Throughout the year, SAAC hosted a popular Chuck-a-Duck contest, sold chain links during home basketball games to build its "Chain of Wishes," and focused heavily on both campus and community outreach. Student-athlete representatives visited local businesses, placing donation jars and seeking campus and community contributions to help support the cause.

In addition to its fundraising success, SAAC continued its mission of building connections among student-athletes through several department-wide events during the spring semester. The annual SAAC Swim Meet brought together student-athletes from across all sports to compete in relay races and enjoy some friendly competition in the pool. A department-wide Dodgeball Tournament saw the baseball team claim the championship, while a combined men's soccer and men's basketball team took home the title in the annual Kickball Tournament.

The semester concluded with one of the department's most anticipated traditions, the 10th Annual Louies Awards Show, which celebrated the accomplishments, memories, and achievements of Triton student-athletes throughout the academic year.

At the final SAAC meeting of the semester, UMSL Athletics also took time to recognize and celebrate its graduating seniors for their dedication and service to the department. Each senior SAAC member was presented with a graduation cord, symbolizing their commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience and their lasting contributions to the Triton community.

Throughout their time in SAAC, these seniors played an integral role in strengthening campus engagement, supporting community initiatives, and helping amplify the voices of student-athletes across all programs.

For many, SAAC became a defining part of their collegiate experience. Women's soccer student-athlete and SAAC President Natalie Scott reflected on the impact the organization had on her development as a leader.

"It taught me how to be a leader. By teaching me how to prioritize others, make the best decisions for all, and encourage others to be their own leaders," Scott said. "It showed me how much bigger college athletics are, not just myself and my sport."

Fellow women's soccer student-athlete Mary Kate Neal also emphasized the personal growth and relationships fostered through SAAC.

"SAAC taught me diverse ideas of leadership and how I can be the best version of myself," Neal stated. "It also provided me with opportunities to get to know other student-athletes."

For seniors Callie Clinton of women's swimming and Justin Simard of baseball, SAAC created meaningful connections beyond their own teams.

"SAAC helped us engage with other student-athletes outside of our team," Clinton and Simard shared.

As these seniors prepare to graduate, their impact on SAAC and UMSL Athletics will continue to be felt. UMSL Athletics extends a special thank you to this group for their commitment during a time of rebuilding and growth. Their leadership helped strengthen the organization and position SAAC for continued success, ensuring future Tritons will benefit from the foundation they helped build.
