TOPEKA, KAN. -- The No. 9 University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer drew with No. 4 Washburn 1-1 in a tightly contested nonconference match up on Saturday at Yager Stadium in Topeka, Kan.
Ashtyn Fry scored the tying goal in the 86
th minute for the Tritons (0-1-1).
For the second game in a row, UMSL let in an early goal. Bricelyn Betts knocked in her shot to the lower right of the goal with Mackinly Rohn receiving credit for the assist in the fourth minute. The play started with a free kick to the Ichabods (1-0-1).
The Tritons had their chances to tie it in the first half.
Rachel Skyberg had her low center effort saved in the 18
th minute while
Josie Maddox and
Sophia Beedle both had their efforts blocked.
The tying goal game in the 86
th minute. Maddox started the play, finding Fry in the box. Fry finished to the middle of the goal, leveling the score with her first goal as a Triton.
Four of UMSL's five shots in the second half were on target, forcing saves from Washburn's goalkeeper. The Tritons had 13 shots in the contest with seven on frame. Maddox and
Ella Anselm led the team with three shots apiece.
Allysa Wolf made nine saves in the contest, setting a new career high.
UMSL hosts Parkside in its home opener on Wednesday (Sept. 2) at 1 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
