ST. LOUIS —The No. 25 University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated Parkside 2-1 on Wednesday morning for its first win of the season. The Tritons are now 1-1-1 heading into conference play.
All three goals in the contest were scored after the 80
th minute.
Ashtyn Fry scored her second goal in as many games, after
Ella Anselm flicked the ball on to
Josie Maddox at the top of the box. Maddox crossed the ball to the back post, where Fry got a head on it. Her initial effort was stopped by Lindsey Ferrara before Fry poked her second attempt home.
Maddy Kuhn added a second goal in the 87
th minute, her first as a Triton. After a recycled corner was thrown back into the box,
Taylor Martin spun her defender and flicked the ball back to Kuhn at the top of the six-yard box. Kuhn slotted the ball into the top center of the goal to double the lead.
Parkside (2-1) answered 63 seconds later when Ava Rizzitano slammed back the parried cross attempt that UMSL goalkeeper
Allysa Wolf had gotten a hand to.
UMSL had 14 shot attempts in the contest with five coming on net. Wolf made four saves in the contest.
The Tritons open conference play at Southwest Baptist on Saturday (Sept. 5) at 9:30 a.m. at the SBU Soccer Field.
