Indianapolis—The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team defeated UIndy 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon to extend their unbeaten streak to six games. The win improves the Tritons to 4-1-2, 3-0-1 GLVC while the Greyhounds drop to 1-4, 1-3 GLVC.
Devin Ellis opened the scoring in the 35
th minute off a recycled corner that
Rachel Skyberg flipped back into the box. Ellis seized on the hesitation by the goalkeeper to head the ball into the back of the net and make it 1-0. It was Ellis' first collegiate goal.
Ella Hickam added a corner kick goal of her own in the waning seconds of the half, getting onto a ball that
Ella Anselm had flicked back into the box. It was also Hickam's first collegiate goal.
The second half opened with
Olivia Lautz cutting down the left side before dribbling in and taking the shot herself. The goal was her first of the season and put UMSL up 3-0 in the 47
th minute.
Ellis added a second goal in the 57
th minute, cleaning up a ball that
Taylor Martin had flicked into the six-yard box. Left in space, Ellis calmly tapped the ball home.
Anselm netted her own goal in the 79
th minute. She found space at the top of the box and netted her second of the season unassisted.
UIndy broke the shutout in the 86
th minute when Mia Bajic beat
Hannah McFarlane to get one back for UIndy.
The Tritons had 31 shots in the contest with 13 falling on goal.
Allysa Wolf made two saves in the contest with McFarlane making an additional two.
UMSL concludes its two-game road trip next Wednesday (Sept. 23) as it travels to Romeoville, Ill., to face Lewis at 5 p.m. at Lewis Stadium.
