BOLIVAR, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team began Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 2-2 draw at Southwest Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Soccer Field in Bolivar, Mo. The Tritons are 1-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC while the Bearcats are 2-0-1, 0-0-1 GLVC.
UMSL opened the scoring in the 17th minute as
Mario Garcia converted on a penalty kick for his first goal of the season and second of his collegiate career.
SBU tied the game shortly before halftime as Joe Wright scored with an assist from Nathan Eagan.
The Tritons regained the lead in the 56th minute as
Benjamin Ocampo scored his first goal of the season beating the keeper to the lower left corner.
The lead was short lived as the Bearcats got the equalizer in the 69th minute with Christian Cruz scoring with an assist from Justin McPherson.
UMSL had one final chance in the waning seconds as
Gibson Hunt directed a shot towards goal that was saved by the keeper.
SBU finished the game with a 13-9 advantage in shots with each side putting three on goal.
The Tritons are back at home on Wednesday (Sept. 9) hosting Upper Iowa at 4:30 p.m., at Don Dallas Field.
