St. Louis – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team picked up its first Great Lakes Valley Conference win of the season as it defeated Upper Iowa 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Don Dallas Field. The Tritons improve to 2-1-1, 1-0-1 GLVC while the Peacocks drop to 0-2-2, 0-2 GLVC.
The Tritons dominated possession for the first 30 minutes but didn't have anything to show for it. The game changed in the 31st minute when Pedro Camphana Buccini elbowed
Max Matviyiv and was sent off with a straight red card.
Upper Iowa was forced to play a man down for the final 60 minutes. UMSL took advantage as Matviyiv scored his first collegiate goal with an assist from
Gibson Hunt. Hunt set up the play with a great run from the wing into the 18-yard box and found Matviyiv who beat the keeper for his first collegiate goal.
After the first hydration break in the second half, the Tritons were challenged and responded with two quick goals.

Brady Freeman in the penalty area and Freeman sent a shot towards goal that caromed off the left post and traveled all the way across the goal line then kissed off the right post and over the line for his second goal of the season.
Freeman struck again less than a minute later heading home a cross from Hunt for his team leading third goal of the season.
The Peacocks wouldn't go quietly as Timur Nagy smashed a free kick from 35 to 40 yards out that beat
Lucas Ortiz to the upper left corner for his second goal of the season.
UMSL finished the game outshooting Upper Iowa 15-5 including 8-1 in shots on goal. The Tritons also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
UMSL concludes its two-match home stand on Saturday (Sept. 12) hosting Drury at 7:30 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
