Jon Huelsman scored two goals each as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team shut out host Truman State, 4-0, on Friday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The win was the Tritons' 10
th in GLVC play, a program-best.
UMSL improves to 10-3 in the league and moves its overall ledger to 11-3. Truman State slips to 5-9-1 and 4-8-1 in the GLVC.
Werner scored both his goals off free kicks with the first coming in the sixth minute and second one coming in the 89
th minute, while Huelsman netted both of his tallies within a 37-second span. His first score came off his own rebound in the box at the 53:33 mark, while his second one came off a cross from junior
Tyler Collico moments later.
Huelsman now has 10 goals on the season – the most by a Triton since Almin Sabotic recorded 10 goals during the 2010 season.
UMSL recorded 10 shots in the contest, placing six on goal. Werner took three shots, landing two on target, while Huelsman's two goals were the only two shots he attempted.
Senior
Nick Lenkman played all 90 minutes in goal, tallying one save as the Triton defense limited the Bulldogs to just six shot attempts. It was Lenkman's fifth shutout of the year and the sixth of the season by UMSL.
The Tritons return home on Sunday to host No. 6 ranked and GLVC-leader Quincy at 2:30 p.m. on Senior Day. Prior to the contest graduating players
